So, after the GHC conference, I flew to Portland. The flight was ok, but five hours with a mini pretzel and two drinks was too much. But at least I got there.
My brother in law took us to Portland Museum of Art, which was excellent, and one glass exhibition by Klause Moje was so mindblowing, it deserves a seperate entry. It was the first visit to the art museum for my nephew and niece, and they were good sport about it despite being reasonably bored.
Then we went to Columbia river gorge area and saw horsetail and Multnomah falls. It was beautiful.
On my sister's actual birthday, we had dessert in the afternoon and then went to Chevy's for Mexican food. We ordered a lot of desserts, but forgot to take pictures of them. We had chocolate, raspberry (arguably my second most favorite fruit after mango), strawberry and other creme fillings at the dessert.

My sister, unlike me, belongs to a generation where it's uncool to look anything less than respectable, but she did pose for me in front of an unsold condo.

Here are the books I got her. I got her my recent most favorite book, White Teeth, the new book by Jhumpa Lahiri, and two books on Afghanistan. The last three books are actually for my niece, who is, like me in my younger days, a voracious reader. I hope she never discovers cable TV, or else, it's all doomsville... just like me.

and lastly, Vivek came down for Seattle, and I finally saw him after nine years.

Here's the whole family at some outlook point near Columbia river.
I stayed for only three days, then went to San Diego to visit my cousin.
