519. Washington DC

I've been traveling so much, haven't had a chance to update my blog. Last week, I spent most of my time juggling various airports delays, and have been amazed at lack of free WiFi at Washington DC airports, yet availability at Portland, San Diego and Charlotte, which is where I'm writing this entry from.

Anyways, enough griping. Here are some pictures.

I haven't met Manasi's husband, Ajay, before, and it was really great to catch up after eight/nine years. They were extremely gracious, and we had a great conversation and delicious pizza.

Suneth joined us at the end portion of catching up, and he was so funny and entertaining, I forgot that I haven't seen him since 1997. After dinner, Manasi and Ajay left, and Suneth drove me around and showed Jefferson and Roosevelt memorial, both of which are sadly unaccessible by the otherwise excellent metro.

Jefferson memorial was more impressive of the two, as the quiet riverfront for the first time provided me some time to reflect on my state of mind.

The next night, Brendan arrived, and we caught up with his friends from home, Mike and David, who should get awards for their home, an interior decoration miracle. This pic is at their rooftop terrace, where they graciously entertained us. We had great seafood at Logan Tavern for dinner.

We also met up with Melanie at the National Gallery of Art Afghanistan exhibit. I found the exhibit to be so so, but was blown away by the exhibit called "In the Forests of Fontainebleau". To summarize, Fontainebleau drew a diverse group of artists to produce open air painting and photography including Monet, Rousseau and Corot. If you are in DC, do not miss it. Here's an obligatory shot of Melanie and I outside Starbucks.

Before I move on, Melanie, thanks for hanging out with me, and can't wait to visit you in Madagascar soon. Good luck with everything.

Little out of sequence in uploading the pictures.

We had dinner at a cool Thai place called Neisha, with Loredana, Leon, Teodor, Stephan, Suneth and Brendan. They have excellent beef. I was a bit apprehensive about the three groups of friends, but all of them got along great, and we had a great time. The last picture shows Loredana, Teodor and Brendan posing together.

After dinner, Suneth again graciously invited Bren and me to drinks at Dupont Circle. I've been going to bed early thanks to jet lag. This was a great idea. We parked at 18th Street Lounge. Cool atmosphere at the rooftop. We were chilled and relaxed when three girls came up to us and randomly started chatting with us. Roshni, a doctor, Kristen, an opthalmologist, and someone whose name I forgot who is a psychiatric counselor for the armed forces. We chatted till 10pm, when they left for pizza, not before inviting us to join them to see Sex and the City the next morning at 11am. We didn't make it to the showing, but it was a cool gesture.

And that quickly sums up my after hours at Washington DC.

Next, I went to Portland, which should be the next entry.
