And If I were someone else...

I'd probably be an Italian. Gorgeous, self-absorbed, rude and clueless.

This must be the most inappropriate entry for Int'l Women's day, but my last entry inspired me to think about me and my italian connection.

Bob and Sheri had this bit about Italians: Bob went around asking how to please a woman. Three Italians didn't understand the question. One of them replied: It is how the woman pleases me! (yes, it's inappropriate, but you should hear how Bob describes it).

So here are my random observations about italy.

First film watched about humans (besides Spiderman and Tarzan): Roman Holiday. First foreign language film (other than hindi): La Dolce Vita. Second, (I think) Cinema Paradiso.

My Italian teacher was talking about language problems: She cooked dinner for invitees, and wasn't dressed when the guests arrived. She told them, "Excuse my appearance, I must look like a bitch" (she meant witch)

I took 10 credits of Italian. Can't remember anything else other than, Dov'e al Bagno? (where's the toilet?)

According to my teacher, to make friends with Italians, you only need to know one phrase:

"Ambaraba cicci cocco." It's the beginning of a nonsense rhyme about being in love with a doctor's daughter.

Favorite role model (real life): Machiavelli

Favorite role model (imaginary): Tony Soprano

Favorite phrase: Basta (enough).

Favorite curse word: Strega.

And this is the comment that started it all today: This website called "Tour of Italy for the Financially Challenged" (Italians do not beat around the bush, do they?). I was reading the part about Pompeii, when I noticed a subsection called Brothels of Pompeii.

The paragraph said this:

Some of the most fascinating clues about the lives of the ancient peoples who
made their lives in Pompeii can be found in the numerous brothels in the
city. It is an indication of the prosperity of the city -- people had
money to burn.

Ah, the last remaining symbol or aristocracy!
