What is not a service industry?

I am very happy with my bank. It's secure, pretty good interest rates, they have the largest ATM network in the country (even in Sylhet, where I travel frequently, there are sufficient number of ATMs), they rarely have network problems.

Now the flip side is, the bank employees are the most unprofessional bunch I've ever encountered. I can understand that a 3rd gen NCB does not pay well, but there's this guy who makes my blood boil every time I interact with him.

This young guy is in charge of check deposits. Every month, I have to go to the gulshan office, and deposit my salary. He will always have a nonchalant, careless attitude, will not make eye contact, barely acknowledge you, will stamp your deposit slip grudgingly and then throw the slip toward you, as if he's doing you a favor by taking your money.

Last two times, I almost decided to speak to his supervisor, and point out that given the amount of business I do with them, they should put someone else in client service. Then I decided that it wasn't worth it.

I could get on my high horse and make a sweeping statement that Bangladeshis don't understand the concept of service. Which may or may not be true, actually. I do have people in the same bank who go out of their way to help me out when I need it.

But one or two people completely sour your idea about the organization, and I wish people paid attention to it.
