A momma's boy, stoic dudes and some classy swedes

Here are some of the articles that crossed my path today.

1. A great article from Italy courtesy of Yahoo! News, I'll quote a bit of it below:

A Sicilian mother took away her 61-year-old son's house keys, cut off his allowance and hauled him to the police station because he stayed out late.

Tired of her son's misbehavior, the retiree in the central Sicilian city of Caltagirone turned to the police to "convince this blockhead" to behave properly, La Sicilia, one of Sicily's leading newspapers, reported on Thursday.
The son responded by saying his mother did not give him a big enough weekly allowance and did not know how to cook.

2. There's a great Men's Health article about taking it like a man, that I'd like to make some people read. The author, a firefighter, argues:

While we have grown used to the idea of counselors rushing in to talk people through tragedy even as the smoke is still clearing, more and more research indicates that this response is not only questionable, it can sometimes make things worse for those who can least withstand it. When we have a bad call, a few of us will phone the rookie and offer to talk. But if the rookie would rather not, we let it go. We'll work the incident into conversation again later and watch his demeanor, but we will not push or prod. We are learning that, yes, perhaps you may need to talk, but in good time, and not while your ears are still ringing.

And lastly, I spent a wonderful friday with Linda and Gabrielle (sp?), two of the classiest ladies in Dhaka. We started with Lunch at Sajna, then hung out at Coffee World, Casa LaFargue, Cofi 11, Pizza hut, A&E and then Red Shift, all within a pan of 8/9 hours. It's been so long since I had a carefree day. Thanks, ladies.

Happy Friendship Day everyone.
