Happy 40th, Dean

I want to interrupt my BB (Bandarban bitching) session to wish Dean happy birthday. Dean will be turning 40 on 7th.

Happy 40th, Dean!

Dean and I've been friends since Fall 1995, when Bard got connected to the web. He was in Vassar, 40 minutes away. But thanks to email, we were connected all the time.

My favorite Dean moments:

1. I got a graduation card with a New Yorker cartoon saying "go on, ask him something". It was the best graduation present. I kept it on my mantle for a long time.
2. We went to see Twister together. I was so scared, I left scratch marks on his arms. He showed them afterwards.
3. We went to this Chinese place in Hyde Park, near the Roosevelt library after watching Mission: Impossible. We ordered fried rice, and then found out that it had pork in it. We went through the rice with a fork trying to separate the pork.
4. Dean is the best housesitter. He was about to demonstrate how when he was housesitting the owner's son woke him up in his underwear, and then realized that he wasn't wearing any. And he continued on non-chalantly with the conversation and pulled a Julia Roberts ala Sleeping with the Enemy.
5. Dean has the best travelogues. Every holiday, he'd go to somewhere and find a Ritz Carlton, and then do something uniquely wacky. I look forward to holiday seasons just to get a long email about a fascinating adventure.
6. Dean and Sarasota. Only Dean can meet someone famous at the pool of a hotel, and live to write about it. We're still wondering who this famous writer was!
7. He's the only friend I know who admitted to liking Spice Girls. Still now, any mention of Spice Girls makes me chuckle.
8. Dean and jogging. I'm really envious about how in-shape this man is. The security guards at Vassar mistook him as the fitness coach. I'm not surprised.
9. Dean and Pother Panchali. I took him to see Satyajit Roy's Bangla masterpiece, the first of Apu Trilogy. His bored response after the movie, "So when you were young, did you run after trains?". I decided to skip the other two movies in the trilogy.
10.And his email addressbook as the best nicnames. He actually has someone nicnamed "a young kathie Lee", "BH of A1", "hand that rocks the cradle", "naughty norwegian"

And I'm very proud of the nicname that he has had for me in his email header. It makes me smile everytime I receive an email.

[Note to Dean: If you don't provide me a better picture, this one stays, ha!]
