Vindicated: Poetic Justice for Shafiq Rehman

Right after coming back from Goa, I got a piece of good news that cheered me up instantly. Shafiq Rehman, the famous columnist, and founder of the previous weekly magazine, Jai Jai Din, and currently a daily newspaper by the same name, has closed down the magazine, and tried to flee the country without paying salaries to his journalists and staff. He was taken down from an airlines (Emirates?) by his employees because of the police case against him, and couldn't leave the country.

My parents and aunt and uncle are big fans of Jai Jai Din. They were obviously shocked and sad. But somewhere in the tiny corner of my heart, I felt little bit vindicated, and therefore, couldn't contain the smile.

Shafiq Rehman was instrumental in shutting down Ekushey TV, my previous employer. I still remember the vicious attacks his magazine launched, picking up random bits and misrepresenting them. At least my employer paid every single penny to its hardworking staff.

In the end, the losers are the journalists and the employees working hard. But I can't but harbor hope that someday, this mosnter will be locked up and made to pay his debt to society.
