December 31, 2004. Bunch of us made plans to go to Int'l Club for new year eve celebration. My date cancelled at 6pm. Since I paid good money for the two tickets, I gave away one of the tickets and decided to fly solo.
After miserable two hours among a throng of couples, I made my way to the dance floor to shake off the blues. Again, people in groups or couples dancing together. I stood in one corner and started dancing beside a group of women. One of them came to dance with me. We danced together silently for about 20 mins, said hi and went back to our respective table around 1am. Then around 3am, i went back to the dance floor, saw her, went up to her, danced for at least 40 minutes at a stretch. Before I left, I handed one of my business cards and said, "Email me sometime."
Well, lucky for me, the hot girl from the dance floor did send me an email. We met for lunch two weeks later, and now she's one of my closest confidants.
Here's me and Annie having dinner at @Corner, the thai joint. Good friends are hard to come by. And I'm thankful that a simple coincidence led to such a beautiful friendship.
