Almost every corner of Dhaka has Krishnachura trees. Now that it's summer, the trees have blossomed with fiery intensity, and will remain like this until the first major shower.
Although it's not our national flower (it was imported from Madagascar), Delonix regia, as it is know scientifically, has been a part of Bangladeshi culture.
Tagore himself planted them in Shantiniketon, near Kolkata. Shantiniketon (bangla for garden of peace) is also red now, as my friends tell me.
Here's a link to a book titled "Under the Krishnachura: 50 Years of Bangladeshi Writing"
Welcome, summer.
