Jyo - JB, has been a good (no, actually a great) friend of mine since 1995. She's the ultimate optimist, a good counterpart to my relentless pessimism. When I first met her, my first reaction was, Gawd, how can someone be so happy all the time?Luckily I mellowed out, and she became more sarcastic over time (the Bard effect), so we got along fine. It also helped that she lived on top of the finest pizzeria in Red Hook, NY, and also the coolest video store. Our GRE practice sessions were interspersed with the most random videos (Fargo, etc.) and many, many slices of pizza, which of course she paid for most of the time. She also introduced me to Liki, for which I'll always be grateful. And did I say that her mother makes the best Lasagna?
I have two moments with Jyo that I remember fondly.
1. Sitting on top of Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge in her black Acura Integra which just ran out of gas. We were listening to some R&B song, and she didn't want to stop for gas before going over the bridge b/c that would mean turning the radio off.
2. Sitting in her Pittsburgh apt. listening to Take Five by Dave Brubeck Quartet and eating her indian cooking. I bought some Jazz CD compilation, and she said that it was her favorite.
This funky cool gal is now getting married! JB, a married lady? Wow, I always thought I'd get married before you! Just kidding.
Jyo, I'm so sorry I couldn't be there, but I'm already in Las Vegas, picturing you in a glamorous wedding saree and an Elvis impersonator reciting the vows. and I'm cracking up, as usual. See, you manage to crack me up even without being in front of me. And that's why you'll always be in my heart.
