Private savings decision

Nick Kristof has an intriguing article on NYT this week. In his article, Moonshine or the Kids?, he says:
... if the poorest families spent as much money educating their children as they do on wine, cigarettes and prostitutes, their children’s prospects would be transformed. Much suffering is caused not only by low incomes, but also by shortsighted private spending decisions by heads of households.
Bangladesh's experience is not very different. In the tea gardens, the biggest health problem is aocoholism. MSI and others who work there now have alcohol counseling as part of the intervention.

I did a paper on Pepsico long time back where an article proclaimed that business was booming in parts of the world with growing economy. Developing countries were more susceptible to sugary drinks than developed countries.

We're screwed from every end, it seems.
