Coffee House Adda you were lucky to escape

I was returning from Sylhet, and on the radio was this famous Bangla song from the 60s, Coffee House er Adda, and ode to friendship and lost days. Seven friends, including the singer, used to sit at this coffee place everyday from 4pm till 7pm. Among them, Amal is dying (or dead) from cancer, one in Paris, one in Bengal.

If you know the song, consider this:

  • Amal: Kabi kabi chera, he looks like a poet, he writes a lot of poetry, but never gets published. In other words, complete loser in need of career advice
  • Sujata: Married a deci-millionaire (lakhpoti), i.e. gold-digger
  • Moidul: Would read out the newspaper articles published by him, i.e. pompous ass
  • Nikhilesh: Used to draw for commercials, now in paris, uncategorizable
  • DeSouza: Nirbak srota (silent listener), or village idiot
  • Roma Roy: used to perform in plays, i.e. drama queen
  • Unnamed singer: someone with a lot of free time to reminisce about those times, i.e. the dreamer.
Does this not sound like the most self absorbed group of people this side of FRIENDS, the NBC series?
