530. Tinku Festival
I've been in a foul mood this week, a combination of various stressor. So, naturally, when Bob and Sheri talked about the Bolivian ritual of beating up the neighbors, I just had to check it out.
And I wasn't disappointed. Tinku festival, according to Wikipedia, is a ritualistic Qechua fight in Potosi, Bolivia where the bloodshed is to appease the deities and bring good harvest. It apparently gets so violent that people die from it, and police are deployed throughout the festival to control the violence.
So, as a consequence, Bob and Sheri's chatroom topic was, does your neighbor need a beating?
My response to that would be, I'd definitely like to beat up Mr. and Mrs Brown, our German tenant who lived in our house when we were about 8-9. We have a three storey house, and we were playing on the rooftop, and since they were immediately downstairs, they came up and locked us on the roof. I tried to climb down, and stopped myself just before plunging down to my death (or severe disability) from the balcony.
It's a good thing they are nowhere near me. Even after 21-22 years, just writing it down is making my blood boil.
Serenity now!
P.S. Check out the Al Jazeera coverage of the festival on the Youtube clip.
