I have been on a feeling for a while that I am starring in the Matrix, so wrapped up on my day to day things that I stopped questioning my existence. But past couple of days have been irritating, to the point where I'm subconsciously looking for the connectors behind my neck in the hopes of a different reality. The pipes froze on our house three days ago, so I've been taking showers at other people's houses, and synching my natural activities with the office hours. And my office bukhari (gas heater) broke down over the weekend, so sunday morning, I was freezing at the office and wishing I brought my blanket to the desk. The office cleaners brought a vacuum cleaner (pictured above) to clean the heater, and that bizarre activity provided some amusement for a change.
Other than that, two beautiful things cheered me up this week. The car decoration in Bangladesh are typical of weddings when the groom picks up the bride. This car decoration was to celebrate people returning after completing the hajj, i.e. pilgrimage to Mecca. It seems a bit extravagant, but what a beautiful cause!
My colleague Basir modeled for me this afternoon the new beautiful thing I discovered today. We were doing a debriefing at Le Bistro, and I noticed these beautiful white flowers with bright yellow centers on the table. I've never seen them before, so I asked what they were called. I was told, they are called Nargis. Now I know from where my mom's youngest sister got her name. And that made me smile, appreciate the day, and stop looking for the spoon. With so much random beauty here, who needs Zion?
