Couple of news story reminded me of this crazy planet we live in.
1. Nike Unveils Shoe for Native Americans (CNN)
BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) -- Nike unveiled Tuesday what it said is the first shoe designed specifically for American Indians, an effort aiming at promoting physical fitness in a population with high obesity rates.2. HIV filled Condom (Foreign Policy Blog)
The Beaverton-based company says the Air Native N7 is designed with a larger fit for the distinct foot shape of American Indians, and has a culturally specific look. It will be distributed solely to American Indians; tribal wellness programs and tribal schools nationwide will be able to purchase the shoe at wholesale price and then pass it along to individuals, often at no cost.
Here's Archbishop Francisco Chimoio, head of the Catholic church in Mozambique, engaging in the kind of reckless lunacy that does not dignify comment:3. Loving your pet to death (CNN, again)
"I know that there are two countries in Europe, they are making condoms with the [HIV] virus on purpose. They want to finish with the African people. This is the programme. They want to colonise until up to now. If we are not careful we will finish in one century's time."
He also claimed some anti-retroviral drugs contain the HIV virus.
A 2005 study from pet-food maker Purina found that 60 percent of pets in the U.S. were overweight.
But almost half of the owners of overweight pets rated their cats and dogs as having the "ideal" body condition.
Pet obesity can be a sensitive issue, says Susan Davis, a pet nutritionist based in Lake Forest, California, who has helped many pets trim down. Because some owners treat their pets like their children, people can take it personally when you tell them they have an overweight animal.
