I've been reading Jonathan Cainer's Horoscopes for about eight/nine years now. I don't generally believe in horoscopes, but I find it fascinating how someone can continue to write a meaningful prediction for others, and expect that others will believe. Usually, I check out my horoscope (virgo) more regularly when I'm stressed, since Cainer's predictions are always positive and encouraging. I liked today's prediction:None of us wants to feel that we look our age. We all want to be young at heart. But we don't, surely, want to abandon all the years of experience we have worked so hard to acquire. Intellectually, the older we get, the better off we become. You are now much wiser than you were. You can easily win today's argument and emerge victorious from tomorrow's battle too. You just have to resist the temptation to be led by attitudes and emotions that might have been more appropriate ten or twenty years ago.On another note, I'm having an inspirational weekend, at least musically. I was on the bus yesterday, listening to Aretha Franklin's Natural Woman, and this morning it was Cher's I found someone. Both reflected my fluctuating emotional condition. Here's a sample of them:
When my soul was in the lost-and-foundand then Cher belts out:
You came along to claim it
I didn't know just what was wrong with me
Till your kiss helped me name it
Now I'm no longer doubtful of what I'm living for
Cause if I make you happy I don't need no more
Dont you knowI think there's a shortage of inspirational anthem for men by Divos i.e. male Divas. The problem is, me, a man, would never dare sing, or even hum, those lyrics I quoted above. I need something that reinforces all the stereotypes.
So many things, they come and go
Like your words that once rang true
Just like the love I thought I found in you
And I remember the thunder
Talkin bout that fire in your eyes
But you walked away, when I needed you most
Now, maybe baby, maybe baby
I found someone
To take away the heartache
To take away the loneliness
Ive been feelin since youve been gone
Since youve been gone
I could think of the following:
- Louis Armstrong - It's a wonderful life - sort of fits the bill. But it's hardly macho.
- .38 Special - Second Chance - doesn't fit the bill, plus you can't belt it out
- Robbie Williams - I will Talk and Hollywood will listen - hmm
- 2Pac - Life goes on - no high notes, you can't belt it out
- Chris Daughtry - Home - maybe, although overused
What are your thoughts?
