So, I arrived in Myanmar airport early this month and we are looking for a driver. A nicely suited woman was holding up a sheet with our name on it, and then she led us to the parking lot, and drove us to the hotel. We were highly impressed, and were talking that this would be impossible in Dhaka, with the culture of harassment and all.Was I being a male chauvinist?
The pic on this entry is the one that put my in this contemplation. We went to Bandarban for a four day holiday. On our way back, Siobhan and Francoise decided to sit on the roof of our truck. While I was taking the pic, I told Siobhan that I was highly impressed that she was traveling like this. I got a reply like this: was I impressed with her, but not Francoise? I decided to shut up and not cause further commotion.
Yesterday, I was sitting on an interview board, which asked the candidates what they thought of gender, and whether they rooted for gender equity or equality (assuming that they rooted for it at all). I thought it was somewhat of an irrelevant question for the position, but the responses were highly animated and motivational.
Oink, oink.
