Bob Lacey and Sheri Lynch has been part of my life since around 1996, in the upstate NY days. They run a syndicated morning radio show out of Charlotte, North Carolina. Their 4 hour daily show is now available via podcast from their site.I've called in once and got their Best of CDs. And a month ago one of my emails became topic of their chat room - "is there something that your spouse wants you to do but you'll never do it?"
I love the show because of their somewhat raunchy topic and candid admissions about their family life. Who else would admit that her husband surprised her in the car by showing up wearing a blue speedo, or that she carries a potty seat in her purse to train her 2 yr old daughter, or that her 15 year old bonus son buys jeans from the A&F girls section and listens to Emo music? How about experiences of divorcing thrice and raising five kids and dating a vegetarian, and trying to pass off as blue collar while drinking chardonnay, and making bold pronouncements like "from today, little things will not bother me"? And here's my all time favorite Linda Long Island quote (try it in Long Island accent) about a fur coat:
"He said to me, madam, do you know how many animals were killed to make that coat? I said, honey, do you know how many animals I had to sleep with to get that coat?"
One of their recent discussions intrigued me. It's from a dating book for women. A tip for getting to know someone's lifestyle is to introduce this question casually:
"What three non-essential things would you give up immediately if you lose your job today?"
Majority of the callers mentioned giving up Starbucks. Since I don't have Starbucks here, here are my three things:
- Stop dining out (my monthly food expenses are enormous)
- Stop buying DVDs (average monthly purchase, 30-40)
- Stop taking taxicabs and start riding the bus (everyday trip to get to the university adds up)
