I'm a die-hard fan of Ben and Jerry's ice cream. My favorite ice cream was Wavy Gravy, launched in 1991 and named after a Woodstock clown. I didn't know this at the time, since Woodstock was only 40 miles from Bard, just across the river. For one semester, five nights a week, at the DeKline coffee shop in the campus, I'd gobble up one full pint of Wavy Gravy while studying. Then I'd walk back to my dorm, Robbins, and go to sleep on a sugar high. Mike, the coffee shop manager knew my requirement, and would always save me a pint.
I was very sad when I moved to Chicago, and found that Ben & Jerry's has discontinued the product. How can you resist Caramel and Cashew Brazil Nut ice cream with Chocolate Hazelnut Fudge Swirls and Roasted Almonds? Are the people in the US complete idiots? Is there nothing called world peace and justice?
Well, Ben & Jerry's website has a page called flavor graveyard. And thanks to 17,364 die hard voters, Wavy Gravy has been voted the number one flavor requested to be raised from the graveyard. Two of my other favorites are also in the top ten, Rainforest Crunch and Bovinity Divinity.
Now here's the good news. You can read the announcement here, but Ben and Jerry's has decided to relaunch Wavy Gravy. And I saw this after I've made a new resolution to abandone ice-cream until... well that's another blog.
All is good in my world though. Somewhere, another nut case is being lured into the world of swirls and free love. And you never have enough caramel and cashew brazil nut icecream with chocolate hazelnut fudge swirls and roasted almonds.
